Unit 5

I have learned lots of new and interesting thing this semester and I am looking forward for next semester. I have learned in this semester a lot of things going on all around the world, I have learned about nationalism, urbanization, and many other things that I never thought I would really understand. Something I can do now that I could not do back in august was make a blog. I learned that I really comprehend things when I learn them in a more hands on way or new way then when I am just reading from a book. One thing that would have helped me this semester would have been not procrastinating, I would like to over come this and this also frustrated me a lot.

Unit 4

Nationalism is a strong feeling of pride in and devotion to one's country. Nationalism emerged in Germany in the early 1800s. As Germany moved through and concurred more nations nationalism spread more and more. Once reaching Europe nationalism had a great effect on them. Many countries where reborn due to the spreading of nationalism through Europe.

I believe that my group did well in trying to convey the major points in section 2. We talked about how Bismark had foreign policy goals, he wanted to keep Francs week while building strong links between Austria and Russia, and he was called the iron chancellor for the ruthless methods he used to achieve unification. We also discussed how Bismark led Germany to becoming one of the most powerful nations. However we not talk about how Bismark did not like the catholic church and lunched the kulturkampf, or battle for civilization, to make the catholics put loyalty to the state above allegiance to the church and it backfired on him as much as we should have.

I decided to compare and contrast section 1 with my groups section, section 2. I chose these two sections because they are most closely related to each other. They both talk about Bismark, and some of his successes and some of his down falls. Although they are very much alike their are a couple big differences, like section 1 talks about how Bismark came to be and how he starts out as King William I's chancellor, or prime minister, in 1862. It talks about Bismark first strengthening Prussian army and forming an alliance with Austria and then taking control of other northern German states. Where as section focuses more on Bismark's battles, his victories and loses, and how German came together.

Nationalism is a good ideology to have. It is a good thing to have people come together and support each other in the things that they believe in most. When people come together as one it makes that nation, country, city, or what ever it may be stronger and harder to break. In order for nationalism to be useful for global societies it would have to be reinvented in no real different way. Nationalism does not need to be reinvented as anything else because all a society needs is for its people to be united as one.

Unit 3

In the late 19th and 20th century their was the second Industrial Revolution and urbanization. In the urbanization, the majority of the population moved to the city to find work. Because of the development of technology lots of new factories were created which created a lot more jobs and pay for people but it created jobs that over worked and under payed people. Technology was good because it made people's lives easier, with technologies like electricity and cars, because they could do stuff at night and get places faster. Technology was bad because it created a lot of poverty at the time, because so many people were moving to the cities to work in factories but when some one worked in a factory they would work so many hours that they would get sick or die and they would get paid very little for all the work they did and they could barley afford food.

In my opinion, Honolulu would be one of the most interesting cities to live in because it has lots of history all over it. One major piece of history is the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941(www.city-data.com/world-cities/Honolulu-history.html). The island then became a major military post with one third of Honolulu's population being military. Another cool piece of history is the volcanoes on the island, although they are cool and nice to see, according to http://www.soest.hawii.edu/ says that a couple are still active and may erupt. So having to live in a city with an active volcano would be one down side. Along with its history Hawii is just about always warm, During the summer the temperature stays just at or below 90 degrees, during the winter it stays at about 60 to 70 degrees.

Unit 2

Jared Diamond had a lot to say about how geography effects people and the way they live. It turns out that geography did really play a huge role in they way people live because the area around people is what provided people with the things they need to live. Not only did the land provide the basic necessities but it also had resources to help some countries invent new things and move ahead of other countries. Some resources helped countries get way ahead because when some people found an invention to help out do something like farm it would create less of a need for some people so those people could go and invent more stuff and so on letting some countries have lots of stuff where as those countries who had everyone working on just getting the basic necessities could never move forward. So where someone lived and the amount of sources around them impacted their way of life forever.
South Africa was not a place of a lot of good resources to improve the way they lived. So when Europe came over, according to www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107983.html they landed in Cape Hope, they had diseases that people in South Africa were not immune to. So many Africans died from disease and it also put a lot of people out of work for a long time which kept South Africa where it was at with out having room for improvement. Over time South Africa's poverty got bigger and bigger and has gotten to the point where as of today according to www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2898.htm South Africa was one of the most poorest countries where most people lived on less then a dollar a day.But now according to www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/sf.html they now have a middle income. So Europe's first encounter with South Africa has effected them today because Europe passed on disease making it almost impossible for South Africa to eradicate their poverty level.
"Geographic luck" plays a big role in why some countries have more then other countries. Geographic luck plays a big role because were you are is where you receive what you live on and if you are Lucky enough to end up in a good location with lots of recourse's then you will be able to live a lot better life style. Not only can where you end up on earth effect the why you live but it can also effect your beliefs and the why you think and comprehend things, like what one person considers luck another person on the other side of things might believe its all from hard work and perseverance. "Geographic luck" can change one's whole opinions around, but I believe that some people are more Lucky and do have more of a chance and have more stuff to work from then others.

Unit 1

In my research on Afghanistan I researched job types and job opportunities for Afghanistan citizens. My research was not very detailed and was more of common knowledge. I should have more fully researched each thing and tried to understand everything instead of just finding the few major facts. In my research I had found some job opportunities in Afghanistan for people outside Afghanistan and I tried to use those and it did not work because doing this really did not teach me anything new and it did not really give my a sense of whats really going on in Afghanistan. Although I did some bad research I did have some very incisive research the helped my very much.
In Afghanistan their are many new situations arising, one big current issue is in Afghanistan is the US Army will be being pulled out in about a year and this will affect Afghanistan a lot because they will be on their own and it will effect jobs and business in very many different ways. Some say that it will be good to let Afghanistan get started on their own and that business owners will be able to create jobs because they will be able to get their business going but some business owners say that if we leave to early that everything will go back to the way it was and then their businesses will end going under. According to http://merln.ndu.com/archivepdf/afghanistan/state/75421.pdf. Afghanistan will be ready when we leave and their businesses will have room to hire more people and create more jobs. http://www.embassyofafghanistan.org/ says that they want to maintain an alliance with the us and they think they will be ready when we leave.

The knowledge that I have learned from studying Afghanistan has helped me to form my own opinion about what Afghanistan is like and what it would be like to live their. In my opinion Afghanistan is a country with some problems just like all the other countries but with hard work its problems are for the most part fixable. Although it could become a pretty good place to live I would not want to live their because it is hard to find good paying jobs that a person could live off of. I would like to visit it, however, because it would be a good experience because I would see first hand how some people live because their is a lot of poverty and it would be a real eye opener.
